This is a unique collaboration between one of our most senior Naga journalists and an eminent British historian, who between them have developed the thread of the Nagas' involvement in what the West called World War 2. For those Nagas, living high up in the hills, war came to them . The battle , whilst devastating and destructive , lasted only months. But in that time, the Nagas played a key part in what was later called 'probably one of the greatest battle' and was recently voted in the UK as the greatest battle ever.
This is a marvelous historical document for all Nagas to read and cherish. Through personal stories it illustrates the ordinary civilian experience of those caught up in the fighting and tells how their lives were affected by it and how lives were pieced together after the battle moved on. Alongside these poignant tales lie the deeper historical facts of how outside forces affected the events in Kohima and brilliantly weaves together the bigger picture with these personal stories.
We are all indebted to those Nagas who helped turn the tide battle and through KES/KET we are ensuring that they are not forgotten . We should listen to their stories and, through their words, help to keep their memories alive.
