Tribal Administration In Northeast India

In recent times, there has been a surge of interest in the study of traditional knowledge and institutions transcending beyond the traditional discourse on tradition versus modernity. The North East Region (NER) of India has much to offer in this regard and the book is an attempt to contribute to the growing literature on the subject. This book presents not only a comprehensive account on the administrative system of the Mao Nagas both historical and the contemporary realities, but also critically evaluate the existing scenario. The book basically is an endeavor to locate the evolution of the administrative system of the Mao Nagas in different periods in the history. It emphasizes broadly on the four historical phases (1) pre-colonial period, (2) colonial era and the advent of Christianity, (3) Post India's independent, and (4) the contemporary scenario.
